Seeing these guys next Saturday

To discuss my ICE requirements. At the moment, thinking of either 2x8 or 1x10 JL Audio w7 sub (http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/w7.html) matched up with a JL Audio e1400D amp (http://www.jlaudio.com/amps/e1400.html)
Going to figure out if it's better to fire the sub through the ski-hatch directly or to have a custom enclosure built in underneath the roof stowage area. I'm erring to the custom enclosure as I can turn it into a feature by putting a perspex piece over the amp, allowing neons to shine through and strobes.
Watch this space ;)

Dude, I say.. if you are going to keep the HK Sub on get the 10, maybe a 12".. if you can fit it. Otherwise get the 8's.
The bigger the size the lower DA DROP. 8" are more to fill in the bottom end.
Also make sure you get a sealed box, not ported.
Keep us informed, so I guess you are turning her into an ICE machine?

HK sub will most likely be removed. Apparently it's very easy to do and when I come to sell the car, it simply plugs back in. that will free up a little space, open up the ski-hatch permanently and give us an extra power source using the existing wiring

I have a stock HK setup at the moment, Business CD player up front. I added an Infinity Basslink.
We spliced into the head-unit wiring to get bass-control directly from the HU, but I've also got the separate bass control so the head-unit splicing becomes irrelevant.
My main requirement is space - I can't afford to encroach into the boot too much, hence seeing these guys in a a couple of weeks for them to look at building some kind of custom enclosure

Durgs, why not get a ported sub, it is totally dependant on the type of sub and the design / volume of the enclosure. In an idea world you would test both to see which sounds best. Closed subs also need a lot more power to produce anywhere near the same amount of bass.

I was just saying sealed, because from back in the day when i was running those two 12" in a sealed box it sounded so tight, much more snappy than the ported ones I heard. Yeah but I was running 2 x 500w rms to just the sub box.

It is all to do with the design of the sub and the box. Moving the air around the space is what it is all about, so it can depend on the volume of air in the boot as well.
it seems to me that that amp would be underpowering the 10w7. Since its recomended RMS is around 500w. Amps max rms @ 2 ohms is 400w.... Thats the hunch i got from the website neways.
