Some folks have seen Waseems M5 (black M5 with the ACSchnitzer bodykit).

Well not having satnav was kinder bugging him bigtime, so being a hardcore modder (and slightly crazy), he asked me whether it could be done, to which I replied of course!! "where there's a mod, there's a way!"

This install isn't for the faint hearted, alot of work is required, but is well worth it. I cannot take full gratitude for this satnav mission, Andy D (D4 on BMWCar) was the "brains", and a fellow M5 owner (Roger) popped by and got stuck into helping out! Cheers guys!

He set about getting the full satnav kit, main components here:

There's also a whole bunch of wiring looms/brackets/bolts/antenna's that are part of the kit, but not shown in the pics.

Wiring it up (to check all the bits work ;) before comencing surgery..

Taking out rear seats to trace/install new wiring loom :

Front seat removal is necessary to lift up all carpets to place wiring loom, also speaker connections to both doors need to be changed, pain in the a$$ getting to the door plug wiring.

lowering bottom half of the dash, and centre console area to get the wiring loom in place and over to driver side..

Removing drivers side seat :

New meaning to Backseat driver.. lol.

The aim.. satnav installed...

Just got a few little things to iron out, and it'll be completely finished.

Thanks to Was, for letting me, strip an M5 [cool

yes and no.. It can be done in a full day, but we done the majority (90%) of the work yestaday, and I finished off the other stuff today, mainly putting the rear seats/c-pillars/boot and tidying the wiring back up.

I'm sure it can be done to a M3 in a similar way, can try it if you want :p

Dont like the word "try" :D
If I still have the car at the end of the year then I might have to get this done, done so much to it don't really want to sell it now. [ok

LOL,

How much are the bits?

Not entirely sure on the costs involved, whizzkid11 will be able to answer that, as it all came out of his pocket!

Well... I am just coming to terms with what the beast had to endure... but luckily it was in the hands of some of the most enthusiastic individuals in the BMW modding world.

I wish to openly extend a very BIG Thank YOU to Tin, Andy (D4BMW) and Roger (rogbacon).

Just to highlight what was involved, I purchased the basic components initially, the Widescreen, the DVD NAv Unit, Euro Pro Radio module and the TV Unit.

This was followed up myself, Tin and Andy, having a few con-calls, emails etc researching and drawing up a list of what was required additional to the many versions floating on the net. Once all identified, components were ordered in...

Saturday morning, Tin arrived at 8am, Andy came from north of Loughboro for 9am and Rog came a bit later. All three of them performed the install and overcame a few unexpected obstacles... working through the day and finishing at abt 9pm, over 12hrs later!!

Tin returned the following morning for a further few hours of modding...

This is what is called enthusiasm, the temperature was low, but luckily enough dry. However with the adrenalin that was flowing, the rain would not have stopped them.

Following BigFas's ICE install - Andy P has been approached for the ICE - but the Sat Nav had already been arranged so we decided to get this outta the way - then bring on the ICE...

So watch this space for another Andy P install.... just trying to work out when what and when...

Any recommedations for the ICE install? E39 5-Series....

Guys... Nice Work. That looks Crazy.

Must be one of the biggest DIY's done on the forum.

Also hate to put a downer on things, but the Nav Unit looks Blue compared to all the old black plastic in the car. Anything you can do to "Age" it, or get the older stuff loooking fresh???

yeah i noticed it doesnt quite match.

On another note, can you just add the tv to watch DVD/TV without the Satnav? Would you still have to rip the car apart?

DVD quality is crap.... and its in Mono.

If you want it for DVD, and TV go aftermarket.

because otherwise you would have to go through all of that.

lol.. cheers was,

erm, the screen isn't "green", just the way it comes out in pics.. happens exactly like mine too. In reality it matches the rest of the dash just fine. :p

DVD can be fitted...my next mod due to come, once i'm back from hols. :D

Yep, there is a slight difference in colour, but that is standard on every factory sat nav as well - just the way the units are.

The color difference looks really bad in that particular picture - because of the angle and the flash...

We have a couple of little bits to do to complete it, and will post some pics once its all done.

I bought the TV module, as it tunes in the channels etc - but quality wise, I will be integrating a proper DVD player and some rear screens with a playstation input... as part of the ICE install...

You can have the widescreen monitor with just a TV/DVD input as they have one aux input channel available.

When you get stuck into it - its not as bad as it looks, cos everything goes back together pretty well... so long it is taken apart with care..
