I was just wondering....?

I personally get my best mpg with CC on, also find it brilliant when going through roadworks loaded with SPECS scameras.

I experience improved economy with Cruise Control. So much more relaxed, as well.

It is quite relaxing, i tend to use it all the time, even at 30 mph. It wont mess anything up turning it on and off so many times?

I have found it does, you cant beat it in my opinion. When you use cruise control it
takes out all the "excess" pedal movement that your foot will do naturally. We came
back from Manchester last night all the way at 90 ;)
if you were controlling the pedal with your foot your speed would vary
as well, you cant really maintain an exact speed over a long distance

yes m8, cruise does improve your mpg as the throttle is not being opened and closed as much.

cheers robin.

Sorry, why is the throttle not being opened and closed as much? Just because you're not doing it doesn't mean its not happening does it. If the computer weren't mimicking what you would be doing then it wouldn't maintain the set speed. Am I missing something?

Cruise control holds the car at one speed only, the speed the driver chooses. When you're driving normally, your foot can vary slightly without changing speed. This still opens the throttle but you won't be going any faster.

CC only changes the throttle according to the slant of the road. If the car starts to go up a hill, the throttle will respond accordingly. If you are going down a hill, again, it responds accordingly, therefore keeping the car at that original chosen speed.

As I understand it, careful driving WITHOUT the C.C. can be more economical that with it on. There is a thread about it on e46Fan I think

If you are going down a hill, again, it responds accordingly, therefore keeping the car at that original chosen speed.Yeah, so its maintaining the speed as you would when driving.. :/ Gotta be a pretty slim economical gain unless you're one of those tw*ts that can't hold a speed whilst driving...

who said you can't just put your foot down until the car reaches a certain speed then it will crusie at that speed because it can't do more , this is tried and tested and its very effictive :D:D

I don't like using Crusei control , I get the feeling that when an emergency happens I won't be as quick to responce with brake or throttle if I used CC .

I had the car for 2 years only used it once or twice the max

it deffo improved things on my beemer but on the merc I'm not sure, to be honest I don't do enough motorway miles to merit using it and my car just gives me the average MPG over the whole journey rather than just that moment in time and cruise control on a merc is more along the lines of a speed limiter so you still have to press the pedal and so your foot still moves naturally and although the speed is regulated, with the movement in my feet the throttle body should still be opening and closing letting in more or less air which should affect the fuel consumption but bah! I dont know!

A 320cd, how many more MPGs do you want? :p ;)

I once had this option, but I've long since un-modded it :D

thats with a very light foot! Normal driving about 450 miles, on a constant motorway run at abot 75-80 ive managed to get over 600 miles.

I used to use this all the time in my 330, did many of 1000's of miles around europe with it. It helps on fuel a lot.

Quite miss it on my current car.

I'll swap mine with yours :p Whilst at it, we might as well swap steering racks too :D

i think in most cases mpg will be increased. however, it does annoy me a bit when you have the cc set at say 80, but you hit traffic so you knock it out, then the traffic clears so you hit the button again, and because your only doing 50 it effectively puts you on 'full throttle' 'till you get to the set speed of 80. if it was me i would slowly increase my speed to 80 not floor it to 80 then back off,

anyway, thats all folks.

maybe future cc units may have an option to change the rate at which speed is increased?

does any of this actually make sense to anyone? lol

spek soon guys and gals

Yeah I see what you're saying, I didn't realise it did that. Bit poor really.

I agree with you Jordan, have often thought this myself - just have to use the pedal to get you back up to speed then re-set :(
