After a week of nearly wetting myself in anticipation I'm pleased to say that I have now dropped in my (2nd hand, big thanks to Nick!) GruppeM filter. See...

First impressions are, :D . Not offensive (certainly not as offensive as my VR6 with K&N) at all, but deeply evil between 4,000 rpm and 6,000 rpm. At about 5,500 rpm it seems to let off a wail. Nice. I can see my MPG dropping rapidly as I keep holding in 2nd and then nailing it.

I also managed to get a piece of 60mm alu hosing down from the grill intake to under the GruppeM. Not a direct feed but close enough to the gap at the bottom. Here's how it looks.....

Excuse the crappy Duck Taping. I'm getting a more permenant version made in the next couple of weeks.

By the way, took me an hour to figure out how to put images into this message. Hope it looks OK.....

Good to see it found a good home :)

why the additional piping. Surely the gruppe M design is optimal for sucking in a cold air feed?

Looks hot regardless. Splitters will tie the front in nicely (nudge-nudge-wink-wink)

Yup looks like its find a good home, best intake out there!

PS Can't wait for the SK Plus to move into the Evotechnik house, soon his SK 1.5 brother will not have to be alone.

I think the only feed that goes directly into the GruppeM housing is from the headlamp vent which is removed as part of the installation. There is no other feed into it. So, technically the engine might be drawing hotter air into it than it did on the standard set up.

The more cold air you can get in the better the combustion. Worth a try.

I can't say I notice any difference in performance. The only noticable difference is the massive cheesy on my gob when 5,000 RPM is hit at WOT!

I had hoped for improved throttle response but given I have the electronically controlled accelerator I guess a software/hardware change is the only thing that will sort that out.

Reset your ECU!!!

Something like 15-20sec half turn of key then back then start, do a search on e46fanatics, if you can't find it give me a shout.

Turn your key to position 1, leave for 10 secs, then turn the ignition off qnd leqve for another 10 secs, then turn the engine on. This will reset qny throttle memory developed from previous driving.
